In 1972 my father took the family on an adventure. This was to be a different kind of family vacation, one that would change my life and give me a greater understanding and appreciation of our planet and its incredible processes and balance. I was 16 years old, that time in life when I was certain that nothing was impossible and the world was a wondrous place to explore.
With the historical backdrop of the California Gold Rush as a guide we set to our prospecting adventure with zeal and the hope of striking it rich. Prospecting is hard work! The air was hot and the water cold. Hours spent moving gravel, rocks and boulders strained muscles and endurance. The fatigue and aches vanished with the recovery of the first gold nugget! I was bitten, I had Gold Fever! The symptoms of my Gold Fever were not the same as Fred C. Dobbs's in the movie 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'. Dobbs was overcome by the value that is placed on gold as a monetary device. My Gold Fever gave me the desire to learn more about how these beautiful intricate specimens came to be. How the geological processes had worked to form the gold deposits, lift them, move them, erode them and deposit them in the rivers and streams. The journey began and continues today.
In 1992 my three step brothers joined the quest. In varying degrees they too were bitten by the Gold Bug. Kirk, Darrin and Clay love the outdoors and are also intrigued by the beauty of nature and how she works to shape our planet. The quest for all of us is to understand, protect and enjoy the treasures of our living planet. As a team we want to share what we have found and provide a vehicle for preserving the treasures of earth in their natural form. That is why we created Gold Art Planet. Join us and enjoy!
